Belated Birthday Bash!!!!

Happy belated birthday to me!
Happy belated birthday to me!
Happy belated birthday to me-eee!

So how about a nice giveaway?

Yup! Yesterday was my birthday. I was going to run this little giveaway then, but I was called in to work at the last minute. (Seriously. As a sub, I usually feel "safe" once it hits 8a.m. Not so yesterday!)

I had a great day despite having to work. Hubby was out of town (that wasn't the great part.) so daughters and I went out to dinner. We laughed a lot, had some good food, laughed some more. Kids made me a couple of little gifts and cards. I have always loved getting handmade gifts from them and this year was no exception. Thanks, girls!

Since I missed posting yesterday, I want to celebrate the next 364 days (or is it 365 because 2012 is a Leap Year?)by having a giveaway this week. It's very easy. Tell me about your best or worst gift ever. Doesn't have to be a birthday present. Any occasion that you received something and went "OH!" for whatever reason : ) I'll randomly pick a commentor and you can choose a $25 gift card/certificate to Amazon, B&N, or another major outfit (need to keep things legit, of course) or I will donate the $25 to a reputable charity of your choice in your name. Seriously, you pick and I get it for you. That way you know you'll get what you want! Oh, and you will also win a copy of Rulebreaker if you don't already have one ; ) I'll pick a birthday winner on Sunday October 2. Remember to leave your email addy!

My fiance, bless his little heart, either gives a perfect gift that blows you away, or one of those gifts where you say..."Oh....hmm..." Unfortunately, I never know what kind of gift I will be getting. Last Christmas I received a couple of those "Oh...." gifts. First gift, In 'N Out gift card. Being a vegetarian, I guess I could get a quite a few milkshakes and fries... Second gift: French press. I don't drink coffee, which he knew at the time. Third gift: a set of juice glasses to replace the ones my roommate broke. Practical yes, but I wasn't too excited about receiving kitchen supplies. We'll see what this Christmas brings!

Ashley, I'm sure he was trying, but kitchen/housewares are usually not the most appreciated gift unless requested : P I've found that it does help to be *very* specific with men when it comes to gift ideas. I hope this Christmas is a big happy "OH!" for you : )

BTW, you didn't leave your email!

The worst gift I ever got was for Christmas. My husband got me a bath mat set. Not only was it a bath mat set, it was also a very ugly bath mat set that didn't match my shower curtain or towels. I took my revenge the following Christmas by getting him a lovely selection of coat hangers.

Should I win, please donate the $25 to Heifer International.

Happy Belated Birthday! Hopefully you and your dearest can have a day for yourselves when he returns...*S*
Well my birthday is 4 days after Christmas, and when growing it passed over not on purpose, but do to my mom's budget.
My hubby knows after all these years I love books. But in the last several years with moving across country and working all the time I hadn't read hardly anything in 4 years. My eyes have gotten worse over the years, and the print only smaller it seems.
Kindle Deluxe. I about had a heart attack....lol.This is how disconnected I was from about everything books. I had only heard about the Kindle from a co worker and my H had gone and ordered it for my birthday, but couldn't keep it a secret cause he was so excited for me...*S*
He said he couldn't keep the secret until my birthday, so he just had them deliver it early.
After 35 years he still surprises me in the most amazing ways!

Wishing a great birthday week!

Best gift -- the Kindle I got my mom and ended up having to keep because she hated it. Then the awesome clip on light the kids picked out that is a year old and still hasn't needed a battery change!

W&C: Ooooo I need that sort of light!

Will you get mom the new Kindle so you can have it too? ; )

It's probably too late but I'll send in my favorite worst gift as well.

For my wedding, one of the little ladies at my church got me an engraved candy dish. Which was thoughtful until I saw she spelt both of our names wrong.

I didn't have the heart to tell her...

If you haven't already chosen, and my post gets picked, please donate 25 dollars to purrfectpals.org.

Thanks!

I won't pick a winner until tomorrow, so you're in : )

And thanks for stopping by!

This year, my fiance and I are flying to Philadelphia on my birthday to meet his family. Could be the best present....could be the worst! ;)

Always a crap shoot, B.D.E. Good luck with that ; )

Thanks for the giveaway! My MIL gives some decent gifts, but some are atrocious. She always sticks a bunch of random stuff from the thrift store in a shoe box as part of our gifts: one year it was a battered old VHS tape when we hadn't had a VCR for years and a hideous Avon figurine of a Victorian lady holding a basket... the basket had a cigarette burn from when someone probably tried to use it as an ashtray!

Liz, maybe she's going for the classic O_o reaction : )

Thanks for coming by!

The best gift ever!!! Well, let me see! There's been some beauties, but I think I'll stick with this one!

I was young. In love. We started living in sin! Oh yeah, sin!

It was Christmas. Our first Christmas together. First tree together. First snowman out on the front lawn, the one our neighbour insisted on removing his carrot nose and sticking it..well, I'll let you use your imagination!

Under the tree was a bear. Quite a cute stuffed brown bear, and in its hand was a note. How sweet, I thought at the time. The bear's giving me a Christmas card. I slit it open, pulled out a single sheet of paper. On it was a poem. A beautiful poem I will not quote that spoke of stars in the skies falling down onto our first Christmas tree.

It was a hint, but I was just staring at the poem gob-smacked by such wondrous words. What more did I need? What more could I want?

My partner in sin was nudging me. Looking all nervous. I wasn't understanding. Oh. The words meant something. A puzzle I was to put together. Oh.

I took another look. I tried to read between the lines. It took me sometime, in my excitement, to work it out. But up on that tree was one lone Santa, in his jolly red suit, and this sounds a little demonic, but his eyes were poked out and replaced with diamonds. The stars that had fallen from the sky and landed on our tree.

These were to be the diamonds on my engagement ring.

The ring has sat on my hand for a long time now. Each year, I take out the Santa with his weird eyes that no longer have diamonds in them, so really does look demonic, and he takes pride of place on our tree-- right beside the little gloves of our first son, from his first Christmas.

Best present. Without a doubt. Everlasting without a doubt.

Did one of the diamonds fall free of its ring?
Without a doubt.

What happened?

Another story.

Alright, alright! I did find it! Still can't believe that. Do you know how small a diamond really is once it's free from its setting. Small. Really small. But here I am still looking at those diamonds. The guy that gave them to me is still watching the news in the other room!

The son is screaming for his dinner along with the other sons that came to join him.

I did say everlasting!

Send birthday hugs to Cathy, and if I win. I want Chapter 16 and the rest of it please, with a little poem written on the inside flap. I don't ask much do I? xo

E.A., what a great romantic story! And yes, I could imagine how difficult it is to find a diamond that has fallen on the ground! But what a story to tell : )

If you win, I'd be happy to send you all the chapters, including 16 ; ) but I'm afraid I'm not much of a poet. We'll see.
