Anniversary Contest!
My husband and I will be celebrating 20 years of marriage on February 29th. That’s five anniversaries. Well, five REAL anniversaries. On “off” years, we have an arrangement. His anniversary is on February 28th and mine is on March 1st. I give him a card or wish him happy anniversary then he remembers to do the same the following day.
Getting hitched on Leap Year Day was planned for that simple reason, to remind him of the date. I figured he could manage the right date every four years. So far, so good. And on those off years, I don’t concern myself it he’s had to travel or forgets or doesn’t get me anything. I don’t usually get him anything either. It’s been a great 20 years with my husband, and I know how much he loves and cares for me by the things he does for our family, not by the stuff that accumulates in our home.
Thank you, honey, for being a great husband and dad.
In honor of our anniversary, I’m having an Alaska goodies giveaway. Local tee shirt, a tote bag, some other AK stuff. How do you win? In the comments below, tell me about your best/worst anniversary or wedding memory. You can also complete the line “You know you’re an Alaskan when…” Here are some samples:
You know you’re an Alaskan when…..
…..your “signature” lip color is Carmex.
…..you keep your snow shovel out year ‘round.
…..you’ve only seen 4th of July fireworks when you were down in the Lower 48. (But who wants to leave AK in July??? It’s the best time of year to be here!)
So give me your stories and/or your Alaskan comments. I’ll do a random drawing on Sunday, March 4, and yes, I will ship internationally : )

Love your blog. While I don't have any Alaskan stories to share, where we live, we keep fleece sheets on the bed year round, and there's a nip in the air starting exactly August 14th.
If you're in a cold region, you totally understand : ) And we have flannel or fleece sheets on the beds year round too!
Happy Anniversary!! I will be celebrating my 20th next year. Since we ran away to Vegas and got married (I was 18 he was 23) we are renewing our vows this year on a cruise to Australia and New Zealand - I only do warm places I'm from California I don't like the cold anything colder then 50 degrees is not for me, lol
Happy Anniversary!
My 20th anniversary is coming up in August! I have a hard time believing that we survived!
Our first anniversary found us in a Suzuki Samurai in Eastern Oregon. The plan was to enjoy travelling through the scenic 2/3 of Oregon people don't realize exist. High desert. Foxes. Wild Horses. Yipping coyotes. Painted hills. Deep river canyons that look as if someone stole part of the Grand Canyon and dropped it in Oregon.
We spent three days in a non air-conditioned dusty cage of plastic. Our sweaty bodies stuck to the seats and the stiff suspension squished our vertebrae. The dust became so thick that we resorted to putting up the black convertible top in an attempt to rid our teeth of the gritty crunch that came with every mouth movement. We opened the air vents to blow 100 degree air on our sweaty faces which made life manageable until evening. Our sweat acted like perfumed beacons to the mosquitoes in the area, or county, that signaled a pleasant place to enjoy a blood dinner. While we sucked down warm yogurt from a tub we were also sucked upon.
And then the rain came. Thunderclouds built in the distance and zeroed in on our location. The best lightning storms were reserved for us, tucked away on some mountain ridge. We would look around and find relief in the fact that there were taller trees and ridges around that the lightning would find more attractive than our campsite.
When we finally made it home, we took a shower in the driveway with the garden hose. Our house didn't deserve to be treated with our dirty aroma!
Yet, replaying this hideous event in my memory, I can't help but think that it definitely deserves to be called one of the best times ever!

Happy anniversary, sweetie!!
My honeymoon story was the stuff of legend on the blogsphere when I told it a couple of years ago. But here's the short version.
We went to Canada for our honeymoon and promptly got picked up for bank robbery. (And this is the God's honest truth.) We were released when they caught the real robbers--two young people who fit our description to a T.
We have never returned to Canada. :)
Ooh, an Alaskan goodie bag. Want!!!
My wedding memory: I'd already had two kids with my guy when I finally decided that he was a worthy husband-to-be. So that meant our two young sons were at our wedding. The oldest was NOT happy about the adorable outfit I made him wear, so he proceeded to act up throughout the ceremony. There's nothing like firing furious glares at your offspring when you're trying to be a blushing bride. During the 'I Do's' my sweetheart got all choked up and some snot shot out of his nose. I scooped it away with my hand, wiped it on my wedding outfit, yelled out "I DO!", then kissed him. Our guests didn't know whether to laugh or cheer, so they did both.
Will love that man till the day I die. The offspring, too *grin*
Let's see. Good anniversary good anniversay. What's the question again?? I think i am still waiting on a BEST anniversary. So far the best i have received was probably roses and dinner. Worst would be a phone call that starts with Happy Anniversary baby. Hubby is a truck driver so he misses most of them. We met little over 20 yrs ago in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm when i got attched the the unit my husband was in. I had just gotten out of Basic training and my job training and was shipped overseas. Fun fun! So yeah here were are 20 years later. Jun 13th will be our 20 yr anniversay. Seems like a good year for a bunch of us lol

I've always wanted to visit Alaska.
Wow! You all have some great wedding/honeymoon/anniversary stories! : )
Keep 'em coming, folks!
From LE, who was having posting troubles: I left wedding rings in refrigerator w/truffles.
You know you're an Alaskan when:
Someone asks you about the seasons and you reply "Mud, Dust, and Ice. "
You celebrate the first day of Mud by eating part of the black bear that wandered into town and had to be shot.
You become an expert in keeping your feet warm & dry in all circumstances.
You know not to wear dangly earrings when the temperature drops because they act as a heat sink and will make your earlobes freeze and fall off.
Lisa, those are great! Obviously you are a woman of the north ; )
Love your anniversary date story! :-) We don't do much, either...cards, usually, although this year was a "milestone" and I hinted to (ok, TOLD) DH I wanted an anniversary band.
Not sure if I have an anniversary story, but I do have a honeymoon one. My DH hates to fly. HATES. We took a cruise out of San Juan, so of course, we had to fly there. I kept telling him it was going to be no big deal. So, of course, it was the worst flight EVER. Enough turbulence even I felt slightly sick, and I'm a "yeah, whatever" flier. I kept saying "we're fine, this is normal." He kept saying "Oh, God." Needless to say, we take driving vacations now. (And he's going to kill me if he finds out I told this story!)
Oh, and I'm NOT in AK or an always cold state, and I still prefer flannel all year round. :)
Oh, Jodie, your poor hubby! I promise not to tell him you shared ; )
You know you are an Alaskan when you need a moonroof to watch the fireworks because you are not getting out of your car to watch them....oh year and the fireworks are at midnight on New Year's Eve.
You know you are an Alaskan when you can't decide which was better....The BB King concert or the awsome northern lights afterwards...and you spend almost as much time watching the northern lights as you did the concert.
Anonymous, you sound like you know you're an Alaskan ; )
Thanks for dropping by!
